Citizenship Swearing-In Ceremonies

The International Institute, in conjunction with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services, coordinates Citizenship Swearing-in Ceremonies for Southeast Michigan. Each year, the ceremonies welcome 900 to 2,500 new U.S. citizens and 1,000 family members and friends from all nations of the world. Represented are all socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds in the metropolitan Detroit area, who have successfully passed the U.S. citizenship exam and who are seeking official U.S. citizenship status. The ceremonies are very prestigious events that include color guards, bagpipers, federal judges, congressmen, business leaders, and government figures, such as United States Senators Carl Levin and Debbie Stabenow, to welcome our newest U.S. citizens. The ceremonies take place on July 4th, at Hart Plaza, in Detroit; at the International Institute's annual International Festival, in October; and at other local venues, at other times, in the Detroit Metropolital area.

Corporate or individual sponsors of these events are welcome to help cover costs. See details below:
