Public Surface Parking Lot
There is limited street parking on E. Kirby (metered) and on John R. (not metered) . A large public surface parking lot (fee charged) 400 feet south of the Institute, with an entrance on the east side of John R.
Parking is available in the Institute’s staff parking lot (immediately west of the building) with advance permission, only

The City of Detroit Parking Enforcement strictly monitors the street parking for expired meters, parking too close to intersections or driveways, unauthorized parking in handicap spots, etc.
Snow and Emergency Building Closing Policy
Unless otherwise notified, the International Institute of Metropolitan Detroit will be closed whenever the Detroit Public Schools are closed due to inclement weather. Please consult local news outlets or the Detroit Public Schools website to learn whether the Detroit Public Schools will close due to weather. If the International Institute building is closed, it is closed for all staff, volunteers, teachers, tenants, room renters, contractors, students, clients, and visitors. All classes and appointments are canceled. The International Cafe is closed for the day. Maintenance employees may be present in the building for building operation purposes, only. Please do not ask maintenance employees to allow you access to the building if the building is closed.
