Alex Barton, Career Developer and Coordinator of Workforce Development

Alex has been working in some capacity at the IIMD since 2019. Alex is a first generation American, as both of her parents are immigrants from Poland. She is trilingual in English, Polish and Spanish, but hopes to learn more languages to be able to better serve the Detroit community!

Alex graduated from Lafayette College in Easton, PA in 2018 with B.A. in Sociology and Psychology and a minor in Spanish with a strong commitment to social justice. After graduating, Alex was a prestigious Fulbright Scholar and English Teaching Assistant at the Universidad de Colombia in Bogotá, Colombia. After moving back to the US to Detroit, Alex taught ESL classes at the Islamic Center of Detroit, tutored students and was a community organizer surrounding voting rights and social justice until her current role as the Workforce Development coordinator.
