Lindsay van loon, U.S. CITIZENSHIP AND ESL INSTRUCTOR

Lindsay Van Loon is a seasoned educator with over 20 years of experience teaching in the U.S., Mexico, and South Korea. She joined the International Institute of Metropolitan Detroit in 2024, teaching citizenship instruction for lawful permanent residents applying for U.S. naturalization. Ms. Van Loon also teaches English as a Second Language [ESL] to non-native speakers, integrating grammar, syntax, and digital literacy into her culturally competent curriculum. 

Ms. Van Loon holds a Bachelor of Arts in English and Spanish, magna cum laude, from the University of Notre Dame and a Master’s in Humanities from the University of Chicago. She is certified in TESOL, International Baccalaureate, and Advanced Placement and has additional training in Montessori education, trauma-informed instruction, social-emotional learning, and arts integration. 

Beyond the classroom, Ms. Van Loon has secured grant funding for environmental sustainability initiatives, helping schools achieve green certification. Passionate about nature, she engages in beekeeping, sustainable gardening, native habitat restoration, and poultry farming, sharing these experiences with educational communities.
