Adult Education & Workforce Development

Workforce Development

Our Career Development Department provides free individual one-on-one counseling and workshops for career development and employment assistance to Metro Detroit area residents. Appointments are available over the phone, video or in-person (limited due to COVID-19). The department provides connections to local employers hiring, resume and cover letter writing skills, application and job search support, interview practice, access to education and skills training programs, oftentimes resulting in job referrals. IIMD has relationships with local employers and directly connects participants to employment.

The International Institute provides integrated absolute beginner, beginner, intermediate, and advanced ESL and ESL/Civics, Workforce Preparation and Occupational training to immigrants, refugees and native-born residents in the City of Detroit and greater metropolitan area.  To ensure success, IIMD’s adult education program provides support services, including job coaching, income support, legal immigration and financial literacy.

Upon successful completion of the ESL program, students are provided with an opportunity to enroll into IIMD’s Integrated Education and Training [IET] program.  Through this program, students receive integrated and contextualized instruction leading to secondary credential or its recognized equivalent and post-secondary degree, or industry recognized credential in a high demand field.
