Global Detroit "Welcome Mat" Project

The Global Detroit "Welcome Mat" Project (new in 2012) is housed at the International Institute of Metropolitan Detroit, 111 East Kirby, Detroit, MIchigan 48202. It is a collaborative effort of the International Institute, Southwest Housing Solutions Corporation, New Solutions Group, LLC, and ACCESS. The purpose of the project is to grow Southeast Michigan's economy by capitalizing on the strength of and by welcoming immigrants, refugees, international talent, international investment, and global connections. The project grew out of an initiative of former Michigan State Rep. Steve Tobocman and the "Global Detroit Study" in 2010. This was a 214 page study (click here to see study):

funded by the Skillman Foundation, the Detroit Regional Chamber, and the New Economic Initiative of Southeastern Michigan. The "Welcome Mat" is a network of about 70 nonprofit service organizations that provide immigration and other services for immigrants, refugees, ethnic groups, and individuals in Metro Detroit.
